It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves - in finding themselves." ~Andre Gide

I hope this will be a record for family, friends and my own memories of my trip to Guatemala, Summer 2011. While down here I am working on my Spanish and looking forward to the immersion in the language!

I'm excited about the adventures that await! July 10, 2011-August 8, 2011

Adios

Alright I´m going to switch to english now so I can get this blog done in time.

After Guiseppis we headed back to the house and got soaked! But thats Xela for you! You have to have the rain! Luis had just gotten his laundry done so he walked back with the laundry under his shirt... estoy embarazada he said... we reminded him it should end in an o!

When I got back to the house Julito and I played cards for about 2 hours! First Go Fish, then slap Jack then I taught him Speed... or we called it Rapido... try teaching a card game in Spanish! Then later when Luis came to played Egyptian War. I told Julito I need to stop and do my homework now! But when we got done Patricia came back and reminded us that we were supposed to have chicken dinner that night and we had not gotten a chicken! =( ...

So we we rushed off to the market at about 630 with Julito as our guia. We thought it was funny how Felipe told him to make sure we got the right chicken and that we didn´t pay too much for it! So off we went with a 9 year old as our guide! We got our chicken and the other ingredients... with some translation help from Julito!

When we got back we had an interesting time taking this chicken apart... since not of us had done that before! and then making the sauce for it as well. It was very good and now we have another meal that we know how to make!... during dinner Julito said... Raquel you didn´t do you homework!!... I told him I had time tomorrow... but we thought it was funny that a 9 year old reminded me that I had not gotten it done!

Then later Luis and I met up with some other people from the school to celebrate Kristians birthday and some of us tried to go out salsa dancing... but we have a hard time getting the djs to play the salsa music so it didn´t really work all that well.

Friday morning I went for the last time with Heather before she left for Guate. We went to the Mennonite Bakery and I walked about and found a church in town.

Later I also went and got pictures run off from my camera... lesson learned... when someone says un momentito... apparently it can mean... sit and it will take your pictures 40 minutes to print! Also its really expensive to get pictures printed... 3 quetzales... casi 45 cents per picture!

In the afternoon we had the party for the high school kids that are leaving. Then Luis and I took one last walk home and that was pretty much my friday.

I have a cold and so that isn´t so much fun. I decided to take it easy this weekend and sleep and study and stuff like that. It was funny though because I was trying to explain to my host mom that I had a cold and she said... you drank what¿... no I´m sick! Anyway gripe just sounds so much worse than a cold!

Alrightly I´m heading off to go see a movie with some friends... we are kind of burning out so we are going to take a break! Hasta Luego Raquel
