It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves - in finding themselves." ~Andre Gide

I hope this will be a record for family, friends and my own memories of my trip to Guatemala, Summer 2011. While down here I am working on my Spanish and looking forward to the immersion in the language!

I'm excited about the adventures that await! July 10, 2011-August 8, 2011

Espanol

Hoy escribiré en español. (English good edited translation to follow)

Today I write in Spanish.

The night before last was a birthday party for a relative of the family. I, the family of my house and my brothers Juan and Luis went to the fiesta... it was at the house of one of the daughters of our family. Don Flori ... kind of like mi mama here... cooked delicious food that I think is called ¨pache de papas¨. There were about 30 or more people there! We sang the happy birthday song and the first verse was in English! But we, the english speakers, didn´t notice until the end! There was also a game between the presidental canidates and the press. How interesting! It was funny. I played a little Connect 4 but still could not win but one time!

I can also introduced my family a little more. In another blog I said a little. There are two children 10 years and 5 years and also my brothers of the United States are Juan and Luis. Juan has been here for almost 6 weeks and tomorrow will leave for home. He is a part of YAGM(Young Adults in Global Mission) of the ELCA and is going to mexico in a few weeks for a year. But he attends a different school.

Luis is also my brother. He has a sister who is my age and I have a brother who has the same age as him. So I think we know how to get alone together. He sometimes walks me home. I sometimes have to act as the older sister who gives advice! A funny story... no one will probably get but... We sometimes walk to school together. But yesterday we walked at different times. and later at night he told me he had gotten lost again and had taken the wrong road .... I had to admit that the same thing happened to me! But it turns out we did the exact same thing wrong... we have a defect!... remember don´t turn at the first yellow building! But mom don´t freak out... I know my way around and its not dangerous on the street during the day... everyone walks. And at night when I get done with class Luis has walked back to the school to walk with me. But I have just found a group of girls that live close so I will probably walk with them now... save Luis the trouble!

It's interesting because all of us are from the US but we cover the whole country. Juan is from Texas and Luis is from California and I am from NC and ¨ the midwest. ¨ I don´t know that people understand that even though we are from the US we don´t live anywhere near each other!

Well I need to go to the mornings activity... a mayan ceremony demonstration.

Hasta luego
