During the second half of class Luis came back during my afternoon class to go with out teacher (he has her in the mornings) to the Feria en her barrio. They are having the fair right now in celebration of their Saint, Santa Anna... the mother of the Virgin Mary. So we walked out there and the celebration wasn´t really going as well like our teacher had hoped but it was still fun. For some reason the Marimba players didnt show up... but we had a chance to see Maria Luisa... our teachers.... church. It is a very beautiful catholic church. Its smaller and more comfortable than some of the really big churches I´ve seen. We came at the end of a Primer Communion service so we got to see all the little girls dressed up so beatifully with full smiles! We also got some food that I don´t really remmeber the name of but it was good.
When we got back... a little before my class was to be over... Luis talked my teacher into letting me out early because hay muchos chicos que la quiere y si seria posible, fuera comigo! So I got out a little early so we could walk back together... but we also ended up walking 2 of the high school girls home in the complete opposite direction and they really live out there too... we were glad we had walked them home. But by the time Luis and I circled back around... now in the pouring rain!... and stopped at 2 non working ATMS, got bananas, milk and spent his last 50 centavos at XelaPan we got home an hour later!... soaking wet!
That night we had a great supper... as always!... we are convinced that Flori is the best cook ever! And then we played some random staring contests, arm wrestling and thumb wars. And then Luis talked Flori into letting us make Banana Milkshakes with the stuff we bought. We also tried to convice Luis that he should change his ticket and stay one more week!
Then later that night my host mom talked to me for quite awhile about US food... and food in England. It was really interesting to hear her opinion on the food she has had there. She goes to visit California every year and she said... they have no tamalitos, no tortillas, no frijoles. And the torillas that they do have are made with perservatives and she can taste the chemicals. And she described to me a baked potato and how different that was. She also doesn´t like orange juice or all the stuff that comes out of cans and packages. She also talked about buffets. She said that there is so much food that people take and that then so many people leave piles of it sitting on their plate. Of course there def is stuff she likes about the food too, but it was interesting to hear talk about the food being so foreign... but its exactly what I´m used too.
In that conversation I also found out that their son that lives with us, lived in the states for 7 years... we have always wondered how much of our English they understand... but that was a surprise to all of us!
Alright well I´m off to write my essay for this afternoon. Hasta Luego
Raquel
