Sunday I went to the movies with two friends and we watched The Zookeeper... which here is El Guardian del Zoologico. So even though it was supposed to be our break we went to a dubbed movie... so it worked our brains! But the interesting thing was the intermission that took place half way through the movie... never in my life have I gone to see a movie and had intermission in the middle... I was worried at first that something was wrong!
Getting to the movie theatre was quite a walk though. We could have taken a microbus but we wanted to walk. So I walked 15 mintues to school to meet up with them and then we walked probably a good 35 or 40 minutes to the mall!... and then another good half hour home afterwards! But it was a good walk. Although we had plenty of opportunity to breath in the not so great Xela air... thats going on my list for TO DO WHEN I GET HOME... take a good breath of clean air! I also had the opportunity to witness Walmarts footprint in Xela. It has been here for years under the name HiperPaiz but now it is official Walmart as of about 4 months ago... there are signs everywhere that say things like llego Walmart... Walmart has arrived.
Sunday I went to church with another one of the girls and was homesick for a few minutes. It was a Envagelico Presbeterian... something like that!... church. We arrived an hour too early for service so we went to the bible study and then to the 2 hours service... which for a protestant church around here is apparently rather short! I enjoyed it and it was good practice for our spanish, but I pretty much pretended that I didn´t speak well because I just didn´t have the energy or desire to do it in the different environment.
Sunday afternoon I rested and got some more homework done.
This week I will have class from 8 till 1. Then I go back home for lunch. We are working a lot on subjuntive and time and getting all that stuff straight in my head. Today I felt like I have learned a lot while I was here. but I know that I have so much more to learn. It has taken 3 weeks just for some of the stuff to really sink in. I may have understood it the first day she explained it but it takes a while for things to sink in enough that you don´t forget it the second you look away from the notes!
Thats my update for now. I´m not looking forward to the paper I need to write for this experience here but its what I´m going to have to move on to here soon!
I´m also working on plans for getting to Guate and in the process I´m realizing how long I have been here. When I look back at my pictures they seem like forever ago! And so many people have come and gone in this amount of time too... and I´ve only been here 3 going on 4 weeks!
I will miss the city when I leave but I´m also looking foward to being home and having just a short time to get ready for class...
Heather if you reading this... I hope you had a good trip! And thanks for all your help in Guatemala!
Hasta Luego!
