It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves - in finding themselves." ~Andre Gide

I hope this will be a record for family, friends and my own memories of my trip to Guatemala, Summer 2011. While down here I am working on my Spanish and looking forward to the immersion in the language!

I'm excited about the adventures that await! July 10, 2011-August 8, 2011

E.E.U.U.

Well I have now been back in the States for a little over a day or so now. I really haven't had that hard time adjusting to being back home. However, I did go walking around campus yesterday with mom... thats one habit that I hope I don't lose!... walking all the time!

I do commonly make references to Guatemala... when I'm driving, eating, walking idk!

I think for the most part I just miss the people. I was trying to text Patricia to say that I was home but I think I still have her wrong number... which is stupid that I've never gotten the right number! I just wanted to be able to send a message to the house! I miss the family and Flori's... "Raquel vas a cenar" coming from the kitchen. I also miss Josua coming into my room unannounced... "Que Haces?" or playing cards with Julito or listening to Louis & Felipe sing something from their repertoire "Luna de Xelaju..." "Tengo una vaca lechera, no es una vaca qualquiera..." "No No Senor, No vas a casare!..." "Dame la gasolina!" or Patricia coming in to do homework on my bed.

Besides the house most of my friends have already made it back to the states. Which the interesting thing that we talked about one day in Xela was the fact that back home we would probably not be friends. But throw a bunch of people into a new country and you share a common language... and WA-LA! So I am thankful for all my diverse friends!

People always ask me what the best part was... I pretty sure the best part was the ability to use my spanish whenever I wanted!... and sometimes even when I didn't want to! The fun thing was that everyone around me was interested in Spanish in one way or another. I was surrounded by Spanish music, Spanish Advertisement, Spanish books, Spanish speakers!
I will miss:
  • The constant Spanish... and I wish my suitemates luck when the school starts up!
  • Walking to everything! (and the occasional chicken bus!)
  • Low Stress enviroment
  • Using Quetzals... they are more fun
  • Flori's great cooking
  • All the adventure's and new things I learned in Xela
  • All the people, family and friends

Te Extraño Xela!
